Microsoft privacy awareness is and has been on the forefront of concern as long as I have been in tech. That is 25 years. What to do about this real concern.  Awareness in the first step. A coworker prompted me about it last month. Many of the people we see every have a state of mind that triggers fear. Fear is not the right approach. The internet is beginning blur the between technology and the self that uses it.  It’s important to take action to protect, preserve and enhance ones privacy.

Take action now. It is misplaced to fear the technology in any form. Microsoft is a corporate giant. It raises privacy issues in a changing world. Like the other large corporate entities they are an unavoidable part of our lives. The same steps that work to protect my privacy will help.

  1. Do not give in to fear.
  2. Read the disclaimers.
  3. Lock down all your software and devices.
  4. Update your devices as thoroughly as Microsoft made possible since Windows Vista*.
  5. Watch your devices or have somebody else help you monitor them.

Microsoft states in there privacy legal docs…

And we use data to help show more relevant ads, whether in our own products like MSN and Bing, or in products offered by third parties. However, we do not use what you say in email, chat, video calls or voice mail, or your documents, photos or other personal files to target ads to you.

Privacy is extremely important in today’s augmented world. There are some steps list is this you tube video. Those concerned about privacy you should watch the video on duck duck go at this using the title: Prevent Windows 10 Spying – Privacy & Security Matter.

The others I’ve read, especially Google whose primary source of revenue comes from selling information about your browsing habits, are less clear. This artcle is not about that. If interested about what to do about Google and Privacy look here
