It does not sound right, yet wearing a facemask is a mindful use technology in today’s world. Using tech is a choice and if we do it for a purpose.  It helps ourselves, our friends and community, and even people we don’t know.  A cloth face mash is a simple peice of tech.  It prevents moisture exhaled from ones breath from landing on other people and surfaces.  Three reasons why:

  1. Simple, easy to manufactrure technology.
  2. It like all good technology,  serves a purpose – protecting those around us.
  3. It keeps us safe by reminding us that this pandemic is real and not to touch our face.

The virus, Sar-CoV2, which causes Covid-19 is not conscious, and is not controlling it’s spread by itself. Wearing a face mask is an aware choice to make and despite the technological implications, I must take it off to use Face ID, it’s an inconvenience that is worth it. According to tech crunch and Apple there is help coming.

Apple has apparently heard our pain.

Users are reporting a subtle new feature in the latest developer version of iOS 13.5 that will make it easier to unlock your iPhone without having to take off your protective face mask.”

Videos shared on Twitter by Robert Petersen and Guilherme Rambo show that Apple devices with Face ID will jump to the backup passcode-entry screen if it detects a mask. That’s not only helpful if you’re unlocking your phone dozens of times a day — which we all do — but it’s also helping to keep people safe by not forcing users to take off their masks, potentially exposing themselves to the virus.  We must all do our part now.

My feeling is that anything technology support our staying safe the better. We are all growing weary of online meetings. I am weary and wary of the amount of time we’re spending engaged in pandemic panic too. I’ve been trying to get more in the habit of wearing PPE. This SARS-CoV2 bug is not going anywhere. So, the we can get our tech to help us in this pursuit, the better off we are. Hopefully, my bank that leverages Face ID will get with the program soon. What are some Tech slights that occur for you with putting the pandemic panic?
